About the district

An intra-city district in the center-east of Bat Yam. All streets here are named after biblical prophets: Yeshayahu (Isaiah), Yirmiyahu (Jeremiah), Yehezkel (Ezekiel), Chavakuk (Habakkuk), Tzfania (Zephaniah), Yoel (Joel) and others. Known for "Met'ach ha-Neviim" ("Complex of the Prophets") — one of the largest pinui-binui programs in Bat Yam. On HaNeviim and Rabinowitz streets, the demolition of 9 old "rail" houses with 112 apartments is planned, along with the construction of one 35-story tower plus three ~15-story buildings — totaling approximately 336 new apartments. The tender was won by the AB-GAD group, with design by Auerbach Halevy / AL-Arch. The existing housing stock dates from the late 1950s–1960s: standard "wagon-houses" (so-called "batei rakevet"), partially housing for railroad workers and repatriates from Maghrebi countries.

History

The neighborhood was built in the late 1950s–1960s, during the wave of settlement of new immigrants from Maghreb countries (Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria). Some of the houses were originally intended for railway workers. In the 2010s, the municipality included the neighborhood in "comprehensive urban renewal plans" (urban renewal). A tender for the flagship "Prophets Complex" project was announced in 2018–19, with the first permits obtained in the early 2020s. The opening of the Red Line tram in 2023 (He'Amal station — adjacent to the neighborhood) significantly increased investment interest in the area.
